Turf: How to Claim It, Hold It and Get Paid

Last updated September 29, 2026

There are four turfs on the map, and each one makes something for the gang that holds it. They are marked on your map in red.

Each turf is a square about 200 metres across around that point.

You need to be in a gang to hold turf. A gang can hold one turf at a time, or two with the Second Claim perk. Use /gang holdings to see every turf, who holds it and when its next window opens.

Claiming an empty turf

If nobody holds a turf, your gang can claim it at any time outside its contest windows.

  • Stay inside the turf for 20 minutes and make at least one kill there.
  • A countdown appears on your buff bar while you are claiming, and you get on-screen updates at 10, 5 and 1 minute left.
  • If another gang comes in, the clock stops until they are gone. Stepping out for a moment is forgiven; leaving for good ends the claim.
  • The whole server is told when a claim starts and when it lands, so expect company.

Taking turf from another gang

Turf that belongs to someone can only change hands during its contest window, which lasts one hour. During the window, gangs score by fighting inside the turf - killing zombies or players from other gangs. Keep landing kills inside it. When the hour ends, the gang that fought there the most takes it (it needs about ten minutes of fighting to count at all). The window is announced to the whole server when it opens, along with what is sitting in the turf's safe and where it is.

Winning a turf pays 30 red chips (150 chips' worth), split between the winning gang's members who are online. A turf pays this once a day at most. If nobody from your gang is online when it settles, the reward goes into the turf's safe instead. Capturing a turf also takes whatever is in its safe.

Getting paid

Every contest window, your turf's safe gains 10 units of its product, whether or not anyone is there. Now and then (about one window in twenty) it also gains a Gold Bar.

  • Finding the safe: it stands out in the open in the middle of its turf, and every turf safe is marked on your map in gold. /gang safe also gives its exact coordinates.
  • The safe holds 100 units. Once it is full it stops filling, so empty it regularly.
  • The product sits in the safe only while someone from your gang is online. The rest of the time it is held for you, and a thief who breaks in finds nothing.
  • Type /gang safe to see what is in your safes from anywhere.
  • To empty it, walk up to your safe and open it like any container - your gang does not need a lockpick. Everyone else does. Or stand at it and type /gang safe take to have everything dropped at your feet.

Then carry it to the Black Market and sell it at the register: 2 chips a unit and 10 chips a Gold Bar. A full safe is worth 200 chips. You can be killed and robbed on the way, so plan the run.

Keeping it

If nobody from your gang sets foot in your turf for ten days, it goes back to open ground. Your gang gets warnings first.

Want more from your turf? Your gang can buy permanent upgrades with perk points and Dukes - see The Gang Bank and Turf Upgrades. They belong to your gang, so they come with you to any turf you hold. Want someone else's? See Robbing a Turf Safe.
